Reviews of Insurance for Senior Citizens

Over 55?

As one gets older, the fear of not being covered by insurance in case of illness or disability becomes greater. After all, a retiree's fear of having financial loss due to high hospital and/or doctor bills can be overwhelming.

Likewise, a "young" senior citizen, age 55 or older, and one who is still employed, can also become victim of illness. However, any prior medical condition of a senior citizen can put them in the poor house very quickly.
Medical debt is the #1 reason people go bankrupt . . .

How can a senior citizen or retiree find an insurance company to cover them when health problems appear?

I'm a senior citizen, myself. I'm very concerned about what's going on with the health care industry with respect to the elderly. I've spoken with a lot of seniors and retirees who are scared to death of not having the funds to sustain them through the rest of their years.

[TRUE STORY]
One senior gentleman in his 60's applied for a Long Term Health Care plan. He was given a quote which he found to be fair and which he accepted. However, upon investigation by the insurance company into the gentleman's medical records, they discovered the man had once received a prescription for an anxiety drug. (Unbeknowst to them, the prescription was never filled.)

With the information in hand of past anxiety (wrong evaluation), the insurance company consequently raised their premium by 35%.

A few years later, it was determined the ailment for which the drug had been prescribed was mis-diagnosed. Too late . . . he was already paying the higher premium and there was nothing he could have done to recoup his monetary loss.

I've been doing some extensive online research on health care coverage by insurance companies for senior citizens and/or retired people. In my quest I've come up with some excellent exploratory sites:

*eHealthInsurance - FREE Instant Quotes!

They require you to sign up before information and online quotes are divulged.

Seniors, don't be caught without coverage.

Like with any insurance program, a senior citizen or retired person hopes they won't have to use the benefits of a health insurance policy. But when they do need it, it's there - giving you peace of mind!
